New SFM Guidelines approved by ITTO; revision of C&I underway

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has recently approved Voluntary Guidelines for the Sustainable Management of Natural Tropical Forests that update and replace the original ITTO Guidelines for the Sustainable Management of Natural Tropical Forests, which were published in 1990.

Consumers want products with forest certification labels, PEFC survey reveals

Results of the first PEFC Global Consumer Survey were recently released. According to the main findings of the study, most consumers (60% of those surveyed) agree that their shopping choice for a labelled product can make a positive difference to the world’s forests.

Imports of illegal timber in major consumer countries has decreased, according to Chatham House study

Trade in illegal timber in a selection of consumer and producer countries is analysed in a recently released series of Chatham House assessments. The consumer countries studied in this research are France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, plus, out of Europe, Japan and United States.
